I have yet to see the movie, Unplanned.  But it is precisely for that reason, that I think my comments will be helpful.

I have spent a little bit of time reading the Canadian press’ thoughts on the film, and what I’ve read has been interesting. Global News called it a controversial American anti-abortion film.  In this country, we all know that leading with the words, controversial American film, is meant to distance Canadians from watching it.  I wonder if all American films that are shown in Canada begin with a review highlighting for Canadians that this is actually an American film.  But then, Global goes on to explain that the film demonizes abortion providers and could incite fanatics.  Furthermore, they explain that this “American” attitude is a non-starter here in Canada.

The Star said that the film is “a dangerous piece of anti-abortion propaganda containing vicious falsehoods.”  The CBC said it had disturbing content and gory scenes (As opposed to other movies?).  In the UK, The Guardian began by quoting the heroic abortion rights defenders in Canada as describing the movie as “anti-abortion propaganda.”  They also wondered why it was OK to allow extremist views like this to go under the guise of free speech, and even compared the movie to white supremacist views.  The Globe and Mail called it a “disgusting piece of propaganda that may endanger the health of women.”  (I don’t suppose they were thinking about those women who are still in the womb).  And then, Maclean’s announced that one of their staff writers had watched the movie and would critique it so that others in Canada would not have to go to the movie.  (They are always so very helpful at Maclean’s!)

From all I have read from Canadian mainstream media sites, it becomes quite clear that they are virulently opposed to anyone being allowed to give a viewpoint not properly vetted by Canadian elites.  “And what if we are killing unborn children all over this country.  If we tell you it is extremist to point this out, then you should be quiet and let us tell you what you can and can’t put into the movie theatres of this country.”

My opinion is simply this.  All Canadians should go see this movie and make up their own minds.  It is time we told the media elites we will not allow them to chew and digest our food for us.
