God Chooses our Times

We tend to imagine that we could do great things if only our situation was different. If we had more favourable circumstances or greater opportunity, then we could be all that we hope to be. But that wasn’t David’s story. Nothing in the background of David suggested that he would be king. There were significant barriers that stood against him ever becoming king. Dr. John speaks of David’s greatness in history and in Scripture, but David didn’t pursue fame or power. He pursued the purposes of God. David’s story demonstrates that God chooses our time and chooses us in our time. As we seek His plan, we find significance and blessings.

    Learning Courage

    The story of David and Goliath is widely known. We learn it in Sunday School. We hear it referred to in our culture. Still, the lesson of the story gets distorted. Many assume that the story is an encouragement for us to successfully fight our “giants” but Dr. John points out that victory is not ours to win. Victory comes from a higher source than our own efforts. David remembered God’s promise and recognized His presence.  The battle is God’s to win!

    Learning to Fight in Your Own Armour

    Chances are, every time you consider the story of David and Goliath, you put yourself in David’s sandals. We all wonder what it would be like to face the giant! But in this message, Dr. John invites us to a different perspective. The question is not, “How would I face my giant?” but rather, “Who is my Champion?” Who is fighting for us? We will find that even as David proved to be the champion of Israel, Jesus is the Champion of us all.
