What Providence Means

We tend to have a limited definition of “control.” A teacher may control a class, but cannot dictate all actions or thoughts. A coach may control a team but not the gameday weather. When we speak of “control” it has implied limits. So, when we say, “God is in control,” are there limits to that? In this message, Dr. John will unpack the Biblical teaching of God’s control. We will see that God’s providence means He intervenes in all creation, in every moment, in every life. Jesus is the power and action of God to hold this universe together.

The providence of God teaches that God is in control of all creation. Nothing escapes His purpose. But God’s providence is not partial. God rules over the affairs of humanity, even governments. In this video, Dr. John will demonstrate that God sets the boundaries and directions of nations. He is the King over all kings. Despite the sinful decisions and actions of rulers, God is in charge. He will be glorified and His Church will be blessed.

Does God have a voice in people’s decisions? Does God’s rule apply to non-believers as well as believers? And how does the rule of God intersect the decision we make every day? In this message Dr. John addresses these questions and points us back to the teaching of the Bible. We will discover that our freedom of choice is finite but God’s sovereign rule is not. In other words, we do not have the last word. God does.
