Some might define a successful gardener by the size of their harvest—lots of tomatoes and carrots means success. But if that gardener uses dangerous pesticides or plants on stolen land, can we really call them successful? Methods and means matter as much as results. As Dr. John finishes his teaching on 1 Timothy 4, we discover that successful pastors and church leaders must care about how they lead, not just how many people show up. Listen as Dr. John describes Paul’s vision of a healthy pastor leading a healthy congregation.

Who gets to heaven? Bible readers know that Jesus alone is the doorway to eternal life. Is that door opened so wide that everyone will be saved? As Dr. John teaches through 1 Timothy 4, he comes to a verse that has raised questions about the scope of salvation. Paul says in verse 10 that Jesus is the “Saviour of all people, especially of those who believe.” What does that mean? Dr. John will unpack the truth of Paul’s words and point to the error of “universalism.” It is both a needed caution and gospel motivation for the Church.

So what is a pastor’s job description? They are expected to preach faithfully, oversee ministries, raise funds, train future leaders, grow the congregation and care for the sick. The modern role of a shepherd often resembles that of a Church CEO. But is that what truly matters? Today, Dr. John points us to 1 Timothy 4:6–9, where we rediscover the core calling of pastoral ministry: godliness, sound teaching, and unwavering devotion to the Word of God.

As the Church is the ‘pillar and support of the truth,’ what it teaches matters. Dr. John opens 1 Timothy 4:1-5 to alert God’s people to false teachers. False teachers are not simply a concern from outsiders hostile to the church**—it is a danger of rot from within. These teachers are not misled or misinformed;** they are liars meant to mislead, and they feel no shame about it. Take time to listen to this needed caution for the Church of today.

Authority is a part of life. Bosses, politicians, parents, teachers, police – all have a measure of rule over us. That doesn’t mean that every authority is equal. There is a supreme authority which governs all others. Today, Dr. John reminds us that while every other rule is transitory, God establishes and governs all authority for His glory. That gives us guidance and hope as we live on this earth.

No one gets through life without finding a measure of opposition, resistance or disagreement. We don’t have to look for it – it just comes. That is clearly true for those who believe in Jesus Christ. There are many who are opposed to Christian truth and practice. How should we respond? Dr. John points us to Romans 12:4-21 for the radical answer from God. Rather than trying to defeat enemies by overpowering them, Jesus calls us to reconciliation, forgiveness and a change of heart. In other words, we respond to others as God has responded to us.

Today Dr. John focuses on Romans 12:1-2 to answer a core question: Who am I living for? Before we can begin to address our responsibilities towards earthly authorities, we need to settle the question of our allegiance. Paul teaches that our lives are to be living sacrifices for Jesus Christ. When we give ourselves to Jesus as our Lord, we are ready to relate to lesser authorities and to each other.

We are living in politically charged days. We witness international tensions, a surge in national patriotism, and even efforts to establish a form of Christian Nationalism. What is a believer to do, surrounded by a tug of loyalties? Today, Dr. John challenges all Christians to examine what kingdom they are loyal to. While we live within certain borders, our ultimate allegiance is to Jesus the King and the Kingdom He is building. We cannot withdraw from our culture—we must engage it with the Gospel message and Gospel-shaped lives.

Death can be confusing. We struggle to understand why everyone’s life must end. We wrestle with the timing and manner of our demise. We may wonder why a loving God would allow such pain. Everyone will ask the question, “Why is there suffering and death?” The problem of sorrow can be a stumbling block towards faith. For believers it remains a struggle. The Bible doesn’t excuse Christians from the sting of grief. It’s not a problem that can be resolved simply from a textbook. In today’s episode, Dr. John will explore this question, not just as theory but from his own personal perspective. Our comfort lies in our God who knows death firsthand and has won the victory.

It raises various concerns. “What if governments do not do what they ought to do; what is the Christian response? Should I simply vote for the person who professes faith? I know God establishes earthly authority but why would He use evil rulers?” Follow along as Dr. John responds to these current concerns.

In Revelation chapter 11, we find two things to be striking. The first is that prophets in the Bible are almost always mistreated and abused, and the second is that the followers of Christ are often persecuted to a similar degree. In this chapter, we are reminded of how God will always raise up those who will speak his word in the midst of overwhelming hardship, and how even though evil may flourish for the moment, God's kingdom is forever.

In Revelation chapter 10, at what seems to be the height of our anticipation to know what will come from the blowing of the 7th Trumpet, we find the story interrupted by the arrival of a 'Mighty Angel'. Something major is about to happen and it’s time to stop and listen. A new and different scroll appears which speaks of God’s wrath being poured out on the world and a great persecution of the church. What did this mean for the church of that day? What does it mean for the church today?
