In this message we are confronted with a choice: will we choose this world or will we choose to follow Christ? This choice will result in two completely different outcomes. Revelation chapter 9 presents the blowing of the fifth trumpet, and from that, the opening of the “bottomless pit”. The passage speaks of a star that falls from heaven and smoke rising as hell’s doors are opened. We are presented with the result of the choice that is made by each of us. What will we choose?

The Book of Revelation causes many to shutter; we wonder exactly what to do with the images it presents. And so, we stay clear of it because who's going to understand it all anyway? It may be that you struggle with some of the details, but if you can keep your eye on the overall picture, it is incredible how all of the smaller issues will begin to fall into place. This book will not tell you the year that Christ will return, and it may not answer all of your questions, but Revelation is intended to sum up the entire scriptures and give us critical insight into the great plan of God. Advent is a time of longing for the deliverance from sin promised by God. Dr. John highlights two key truths form Micah - the enormity of sin and the grace of the Messiah. Despite the severity of our rebellion, Micah offers hope. Advent invites us to wait on God, trusting in His deliverance, just as the Messiah’s coming brings light to those in darkness. God’s steadfast love and forgiveness, realized in Christ, offer hope for all.

Sin is not just a sense of dysfunction in our world, but rebellion against God. Using Micah 6, Dr. John highlights God's indictment of Israel for rejecting His mercy and justice. God's requirements are simple: to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. Jesus comes as the only solution to sin in our world and in our hearts.

Dr. John focuses on the prophecy of Micah, highlighting the contrast between present suffering and future hope. Micah prophesied that the Messiah would emerge from the insignificant town of Bethlehem to restore peace and righteousness. While skeptics may doubt the fulfilment of God’s promises, the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem marks the beginning of the Messiah’s reign and our own hope. Dr. John encourages believers to hold onto hope. Jesus brings salvation and the ultimate defeat of evil.

Our present world of sin doesn't reflect the future hope of the Messiah’s reign. Dr. John draws from Matthew 24 and Micah, emphasizing both judgment and peace. Micah prophesies that the Messiah will bring justice, transform nations, and end violence. The Christmas message signals the beginning of this hope. Jesus’ birth marks the start of God's plan to defeat sin and death - the only hope for our world.
